Fletcher Donor Report2022 | 2023

Thank you from Kelly Sims Gallagher, dean ad interim

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to introduce myself to you through this annual philanthropy report, which highlights a host of achievements from this past year. In my time at Fletcher, I have held many roles—student, faculty, and academic dean to name a few—and I have always been proud to be a member of this inspiring worldwide community. Now I am honored to serve as dean ad interim, and I hope to lean on the knowledge, advice, and love for Fletcher that you and all the members of our community bring to the table.

As we are in the midst of Fletcher’s 90th anniversary year, I reflect on one of the subjects we explore in great depth at Fletcher, across every program and discipline: leadership. We focus not just on what it is and why it matters, but also on how we can cultivate the qualities of transformational leadership in our students. I believe that Fletcher’s approach to training future leaders who are thoroughly prepared for the myriad challenges they will meet during their careers is one of our singular strengths, honed over the past nine decades. It is why students come to Fletcher from all over the world, to ground their life’s work—in public service or industry, government, or scholarship—in a Fletcher education.

The individuals in this giving report are, in a very real way, carrying the mantle of Fletcher leadership as well. Their gifts vary widely in size and purpose, but they are linked by a common goal: to ensure that what is valuable and vital at The Fletcher School today will be even stronger in the years to come. That is what true leadership looks like.

I am also thrilled to celebrate the successful completion of the Tufts Brighter World campaign, which raised over $120 million in support for Fletcher. Many of you are listed in the following searchable Donor Wall, which displays our fiscal year 2023 supporters at the level of $100 and above. While not everyone who contributed to the campaign in the past 10 years is displayed, they are no less a part of Fletcher’s success and of where we are as a school today.

We are in a time of transition—as a school, as a society, as a planet—and thus it seems especially important to focus on our connectedness and how we can support each other as a community during uncertain times. I have gained strength from the steadfast support of our alumni and friends of the school. To all those whose generosity is celebrated in this report, I am deeply grateful.

Kelly Sims Gallagher, Dean, ad interim

Sincerely,

Kelly Sims Gallagher, F00, FG03

Highlights from This Past Academic Year

From the Halls...

Student life resumed its pre-pandemic pace in 2022–2023, and student-organized programs injected vitality and camaraderie into the halls of Fletcher. Cabot once again hosted thought-provoking student conferences, innovative case competition teams, and inspiring cultural events. Gifts to the Fletcher Annual Fund directly impact these critical outside-the-classroom experiences for students: funds can help students access competitions, conferences, and network-building opportunities they would not have access to otherwise.

…to the Classrooms…

The 2022–2023 academic year brought several exciting additions to the Fletcher faculty, widening the school’s breadth of disciplines and strengthening its interdisciplinary approach to global affairs.

…to the World

Fletcher’s community gatherings were not limited to Packard Avenue—alumni from across the globe gathered to network, learn, and engage in our vibrant community. Faculty and staff visited alumni at Fletcher’s annual symposia in London and Talloires and at gatherings in New York City, Sharm El Sheikh, Bogota, Quito, Nairobi, Madrid, Paris, Brussels, Washington, D.C., Tbilisi, Manila, Mexico City, Miami, Tokyo, Zurich, and other locations. The breadth of these alumni gatherings illustrates how far Fletcher’s international community reaches and demonstrates how tightly woven and supportive our worldwide network is.

Over nine decades, Fletcher has expanded to 10 unique degree programs, welcomes hundreds of talented students each year, and boasts some of the most sought-after and well-regarded faculty experts across the international relations spectrum.

Across the decades, Fletcher has been a leader in shaping the field of global affairs and developing new areas of study to reflect real-world, real-time realities. Fletcher alumni and its faculty community have driven transformative research, informed countless policymakers across continents and subject matters, and set the gold standard for interdisciplinary analysis and problem-solving.

This year, Fletcher will celebrate how far we have come—and how much further we can go.
